Hehe, I agree!! If you don't give, how can you gain? My mom told me once, that if I clench things in my hands and try to keep things, then I wouldn't be able to receive anything.

I think when we sacrifice of ourselves for others, we will always be rewarded, and because that reward is from God, you can be sure it will be a very, very good reward.

So I think it is good to give of yourself even though you may never seem to be repaid. The Chinese say, 好行有好报, and ultimately that will be true. In the eyes of the world it will not seem like you have been repaid. But you gained alot from just giving.
