This is a very messy post, from a very messy mind. It may be all wrong, I can't say it's right. I may be completely off the mark. I have to constantly ask myself, what I am doing things for...to make sure my priorities are right. Wish I could walk my talk.
I came across this song when playing around on Youtube today. It was the theme song of Lifegame, a camp where I went to hell and back haha!! Not a Christian song, but there's something to it. Lifegame was a big wake up call for me. It shocked me into seriously thinking of what life is really about, about chasing status, earning more money, living a more comfortable life. And blindly following authority, not living by the Bible. Not reading the Bible and being prepared for Christ's second coming. Not using it as a guide. And there is fear. Fear of sharing this. Fear of men. Desiring the acceptance of men rather than God. As a Christian there is always persecution, and no persecution will lead to complacency. Right now I think I have returned to complacency...
In CS Lewis' book Out of The Silent Planet Ransom's one sin was fear, fear and complacency, not acting when told, desiring to do what he himself thought was right even when clearly it is wrong, the death of his friend was the consequence of disobedience. In George MacDonald's book Lilith there was some very scary parts too, of the consequences of doing things your way. A lot of times we look at God as a loving God, and yes He is. But He hates sin, and sin always has consequences. David was forgiven, but after his great sin of adultery, he went through a great deal of suffering later. And he had to bear the consequences, the death of his son.
This song was inspired by a poem written by TS Elliot, The Hollow Men. Quite chim. Haha. Oh, mummy told me to read the Heart of Darkness (Joseph Conrad) before, but I never got around to it. This book inspired this poem, apparently. The summary reminds me of the book Lord of the Flies. Kind of. Oh well. Those are really scary books. Humans are really powerful, somehow. So much evil can come out of them. It's a wrong sort of power. Anyway...here's a quote from one of my favorite authors:
"If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world."
--C.S. Lewis
Psalm 82:6
I say, 'You are gods and children of the Most High. But in death you are mere men. You will fall as any prince, for all must die.'"
John 10:34
Jesus replied, "It is written in your own law that God said to certain leaders of the people, 'I say you are gods!' And you know the scripture cannot be altered. So if those people, who received God's message, were called 'gods', why do you call it blasphemy when the Holy One who was sent into the world by the father says, 'I am the Son of God'?
The world isn't everything. There's something so great out there that I may never understand now and never know about. But it will be good!! Because God is good.
Meant To Live (Switchfoot) Youtube
Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Dreaming about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been livin with our eyes half open
Maybe we're bent and broken, broken
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life yeah
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live
We were meant to live
